YouGreen is an Austrian non-profit organisation founded by a group of students. We know that together we can fight against the problems that are mostly caused by ourselves. Therefore we raise awareness for critical topics and inspire people to change! It is up to all of us.YouGreen was established to improve.
Our No. 1 goal – Climate action
By now, every country experiences drastic effects of climate change. Greenhouse gas emissions are more than 50 per cent higher than in 1990. Global warming is causing long-lasting changes to our ecosystem, which threatens irreversible consequences if we do not act.
The annual average economic losses from climate-related disasters are in the hundreds of billions of dollars. This is not to mention the human impact of geophysical disasters, which are 91 per cent climate-related, and which between 1998 and 2017 killed 1.3 million people, and left 4.4 billion injured.
The sustainable development goals of the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) aim to mobilize US$100 billion annually by 2020 to spout the needs of developing countries to both, adapt to climate change, and invest in low-carbon development.
These actions must also go together with efforts to integrate disaster risk measures, sustainable natural resource management, and human security into national development strategies. It is still possible, with strong political will, increased investment, and using existing technology, in order to limit the increase in global mean temperature to two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, aiming at 1.5°C, but this requires urgent and ambitious collective action.
Our objective is to raise awareness for the importance of our current situation and to inspire people to do something. We choose our politics, we decide what we consume and what not, and therefore we also control what is being produced and what not.
We rule. There is nobody else who does.
We are made to believe by those who rule that they rule in order to forget about our power. We, unfortunately, do not act like the world is, we act like we think the world is, and this is continually being manipulated by groups of people to gain wealth, fast and careless.Andrei Nicolescu, Founder
Global net CO2 emissions must drop by 45% between 2010 and 2030, and reach net zero around 2050, to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5C.
Sea levels have risen by about 20 cm (8 inches) since 1880 and are estimated to rise another 30–122 cm (1 to 4 feet) by 2100.
As of 2017 humans are estimated to have caused approximately 1.0°C of global warming above pre-industrial levels.
Climate pledges under The Paris Agreement cover only one-third of the emissions reductions needed to keep the world below 2°C.
Bold climate action could trigger at least US$26 trillion in economic benefits by 2030.
The energy sector alone is estimated to create around 18 million more jobs by 2030, explicitly focused on sustainable energy.
This is not our only goal, but the one we represent at the moment, and this does not mean that other things like human rights are not important to us (Our just recently joined CEO is representing the ethical aspects of our ideas and projects)!
We are still quite small and searching for more volunteers (don’t be afraid to contact us if you would like to volunteer to help the environment and us :), and therefore we decided to start with only one of our ideas for quality reasons and implement the further ones as soon as we gain the necessary resources.
